Inner Monk is a prayer app offered by Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, Indiana. This policy explains what information the app keeps, why, and how you can remove it. The short version: the app keeps only what it needs to run your account, it never sells or shares your information for advertising, and you can delete your account and everything in it at any time from inside the app.

Using the app without an account

You can read the daily prayers, the Rule of St. Benedict, the guided lectio divina, news, events, the blog, the podcast, and the live services without creating an account. In that case the app stores nothing about you on our servers beyond the ordinary technical records described below.

What we collect when you create an account

• Account details. Your email address and a password (stored only as a one-way hash, never as plain text). You may also add a first and last name, a phone number, and a profile photo; all three are optional.
• Your prayer activity. When you tap “Amen” on a prayer, the app records which prayer and when, so it can show your prayer history and streaks. It also keeps the prayers you mark as favorites, the lectio divina sessions you complete, the badges you earn, and whether you have turned on quiet mode.
• Reminders. If you turn on a daily reminder, the app stores the times you choose and your device’s time zone so the reminder arrives at the right hour. To deliver it, the app registers your device for push notifications through AppPresser, the service that builds and delivers the app, which passes the message to Apple or Google for delivery to your phone.

Technical records

Like any online service, the servers that host the app keep standard access logs (such as your device’s IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. These are held by our hosting provider, WP Engine, for a limited time and are not combined with your account activity.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the app and this site are used: which screens are opened, roughly what part of the world a visitor is in, and what kind of device they use. This is how we learn what to improve. Google receives that information and sets a cookie or similar identifier so it can recognise a returning browser.

We do not send Google your name, your email address, or your prayer activity, and we do not use this information for advertising or combine it with your account. You can opt out on every site you visit using Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
• We do not show advertising and do not share your information with advertisers.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not use your information to build an advertising profile.
• We do not use your prayer activity for anything other than showing it to you inside the app.

Services the app relies on

• WP Engine hosts the app’s content and your account data in the United States.
• Google Analytics records how the app and site are used, as described above. Google’s handling of that data is covered by its own privacy policy.
• AppPresser builds the mobile app and delivers push notifications, using Apple Push Notification service on iOS and Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android. It receives a device token for notifications; it does not receive your prayer activity.
• Saint Meinrad’s websites supply the news, events, blog, and podcast content shown in the app. Opening an item takes you to those sites, which have their own privacy policy.
• BoxCast streams the live services. The player is embedded from BoxCast and is subject to BoxCast’s privacy policy.
• Apple App Store and Google Play handle app downloads and updates under their own terms.

How long we keep it

Your account and its activity are kept for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, everything listed above is removed from our live systems right away. Backup copies made by our hosting provider are kept for a limited period and then overwritten.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from inside the app:

1. Sign in and open the menu.
2. Tap Profile.
3. Scroll to Delete Account, enter your password, tick the confirmation box, and tap Delete My Account.

This permanently removes your account, prayer history, favorites, badges, lectio sessions, reminder settings, device registration, and profile photo. It cannot be undone. If you would rather we do it for you, or you no longer have access to the app, email webmaster@saintmeinrad.edu from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.

Your choices

• You can update your name, email, phone number, and photo under Profile.
• You can turn reminders off at any time under Profile, or disable notifications for Inner Monk in your phone’s settings.
• You can turn on quiet mode to hide badges and streaks; your history is kept unless you delete your account.

Children

Inner Monk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, so nobody at Saint Meinrad or Fiat Insight can read them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know inside the app.
